071015: Standard for mobile communication gains ground

The MSI standard is now ready for use! The standard is already in use by a number of large transportation companies in Sweden for communication between transport management system and vehicle.

The interest from the actors in the market is considerable and four new members have joined the MSI Group in the last month. This means that a significant portion of the IT-suppliers in the Swedish transportation industry is now in support of the MSI standard.

- We view upon this as a confirmation that the industry ha adopted the standard and that it meets a tangible need, says Per Olof Arnas, chairman of the MSI Group, which is the organisation in charge of the MSI standard.

The Mobile Stationary Interface Group was formed more than a year ago from suppliers of IT- systems for the transportation industry in Sweden together with representatives for transportation companies. This was a powerful display of unity towards the creation of a standard for how information between transport management systems and vehicles should be structured and transmitted.

The work in creating the standard has been studied at the Viktoria Intitute (www.viktoria.se) and has been accounted for in a recent PhD-thesis, which will be defended in public on the 25th of october 2007 at the IT University on Gothenburg, Sweden.
